Top 10 Trends from Lakmé Fashion Week S/R 2016

Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 was held at St. Regis hotel in Mumbai starting March 30, the five-day gala brought the best talent from across the globe, and celebrated fashion in its best form. Let’s have a look at the Top 10 trends:

DRAPED TROUSERS 

These loose-fit draped trousers can be paired up with almost everything from your wardrobe. This season during Lakme we saw them paired up with crop tops, shirts, kurtas, capes and many other types of tops and blouses. This style sure is a comfortable one and also one that can create multiple looks, one can make it look completely traditionally Indian or western.

MATCHING SUITS 

The strong powerful look was certainly there for the Woman this time during the Fashion Week. Matching suits seem to have been every designers favourite style this season. We saw suits that were printed, colourful and embroidered.

BOMBER JACKETS 

The 90’s famous bomber jackets have definitely become a classic for todays fashion. The simple jacket has started to be made in all sorts of different fabrics to create a variety of looks. For this spring/resort 2016 we saw them in mesh net, satin, quilted fabrics and printed looks. The lengths of these jackets have started to vary depending on what has been paired up with them, majority of the jackets for seen either with dresses or skirts!

GATHERED HEMS 

My personal favourite! This element of gathered and exaggerated hemlines truly gives a very feminine feel to the garments. The dresses, skirts and gowns all had them this season, which will make girls look taller and will enjoy the flared voluminous look that it gives off.

OFF-SHOULDER STYLES

This look was there in almost every designers collection and is definitely one of the hottest picks for 2016. In almost every style of clothes the off-shoulder style was seen from jumpsuits to capes, dresses, blouses to shirts. Don’t forget to show off your beautiful shoulders ladies, it’s the way to go this summer!

MIDI SKIRTS 

This skirt length seems to have become a preferred length for todays Fashion. It fits all the different body types, covers the right amount of your legs and reveals the right amount too! The midi skirts were seen in jersey fabrics, satin, net and printed fabrics. Some had front open slits, side slits, and full front open with buttons. Most of them were all paired up with a crop top since that is what we all love these days don’t we?

STRIPES

Vertical and horizontal lines remain a classic for this years summer/resort 2016 especially the lines in the shirt styles. They were used in skirts, dresses, pants and blazers. This is something I think every designer enjoys using at all times!

WRAP IT AROUND

Another old favourite the wrap around style (Angrakha for the India version) was seen at Fashion Week in some very elegant styles. They work as blouses over lehengas, dresses, tops and embroidered gowns. You will find that this year that you can wear a cotton wrap around top as a casual style or a velvet wrap around blouse for an Indian look.

LOOSE-FIT BLOUSE WITH SARI

Nothing completes an Indian Fashion Week without a twist in the traditional Indian Sari. The biggest variety of styles we saw on the ramp this time was the Saris and not just the sarees the blouses they were worn with. The trend is drifting away from body fitted sexy blouses, instead the trend for this year are loose fitted crop tops with high necklines. The sleeves are also loose, this seems to be the fun and casual way to wear a Sari now and a very cool look to wear at the summer weddings!

PRINTS

The love for prints has developed tremendously over the past view seasons by designers and has become a very important part of everyones collection; it is as if there is something missing without a bit of print! During Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2016 we saw Masaba’s red chilli print and Sneha Arora’s animal print. Anita Dongre’s collection was echoing with the architecture of Rajasthan and Quirkbox famous for its quirky motifs had French art as their inspiration with detailed and classic hand illustrations of vintage objects like sewing machines adorning the clothes.
