Snapchat Filters Walked Down The NYFW SS17 Runway
‘If only I looked like how I do in Snapchat,’ is a common phrase we hear today. This wish has come true and the most unexpected look of NYFW so far has got to be Desigual’s Snapchat filters. Let’s admit that we all just love the snapchat filters and sometimes a selfie seems incomplete without one. It just adds that something extra and sometimes flawless skin! Fashion brand Desigual turned this favourite obsession of everyone into reality during New York Fashion Week SS 17 when they sent their models down the runway in makeup inspired by this app. The models were practically wearing no makeup and this was inspired by the #NoFilter hashtag, they simply applied moisturiser to the models’ faces and the selected ones had the snapchat filters looks.
There was a good mix of all the favourite looks, the dog nose, tiger stripes, deer freckles, bee designs, flower crown and golden butterfly crown filter that we saw on selected models. M.A.C Cosmetics were used to create the snapchat inspired makeup and the head accessories were made by using paper cutouts. (Keep these in mind it could be this years halloween look for you)

This was probably not something that we expected from the Barcelona-based brand, but it fits as after all it has been the year of the filter. I think none will deny that when you wear a real flower crown it doesn’t look as attractive as the filter flower crown, with the glow and the eye magnifier. After this we are hoping Kylie Jenner will try this snapchat inspired makeup because if you follow her on snapchat you would know how obsessed she is with the dog filter!
We saw some beautiful designs from Desisgual’s show but when you paint your models with snapchat filters I don’t think anyone saw the stunning colourful military jackets, knitwear and dip-dyed trousers.
This probably won’t be the beauty trend for Spring 17′ but it definitely could be for Halloween. It was nice way to make the runway a bit more playful and make the audience smile as anyone would when they would see a cute little dog face coming down. All in all it was a fun presentation and reflection of the growing millennial culture and the obsession of recreating the digital space and we support popular culture’s influence in fashion.
